Over centuries, people have carefully built terraces on the rugged, steep landscape right up to the cliffs that overlook the sea. Cinque Terre consists of 5 tiny villages on the northwest coast of Italy. Part of the charm is the lack of visible corporate development, and though this area was swarming with tourists, it was by far one of my favourite places in all of Italy. Boats, trains, and paths connect the five villages, but they are inaccessible by car. Amazing. Try the pistachio gelato here!
